The SF Weekly liked us, and Sean Kelly (whom you might remember as Dr Strangelove in Dr Strangelove: Live!) said we were "better than Cats," which means a lot to me, because I freaking love that musical.

Also, this is the first time my name or face has ever appeared on promotional material and I'm super stoked.

Maelstrom II

I've just been cast as Earth Operator in Maelstron II and I'm sooooper excited.  The audition was where ILM used to be and they had a Jurassic Park pinball machine.

Goodfellas: Live!

Goodfellas: Live! Becky Hirschfeld (Assistant Director/Understudy to Alexia Staniotes) has appeared in many plays at the Dark Room, including Star Trek, Beetlejuice, and Dr Strangelove (all Live!), and she's happy to make her behind-the-scenes debut in Goodfellas. She'll be acting in The Wrong Dick next month and will direct Starlight Supply for the Summer Twilight Zone series, both also at the Dark Room. I never had a problem with Wesley Crusher... could you imagine being a genius teenager living on a ship with your hot mom who scolds you over the PA system?  It would make anyone kinda bratty sometimes.

Anyway, now that I no longer have a steady job, this is going to give me a good opportunity to start working on the Babes of Star Trek series that I've been planning.  I think it might be a mobile.

Becky Hirschfeld (Miss Scott/Stage Manager) has acted in many things, including Star Trek Live: The Way to Eden, Beetlejuice Live!, Sally Cohen Discusses Music, Space Wasters, and The Twitter Bar. Jason watches Dr Strangelove: Live!

At the Dark Room. Yeah, they do stuff other than Bad Movie Night there. In fact, they do bad movies and good plays, often (as in this case) based on good movies.

DR STRANGELOVE is, of course, a classic. And this play reminded me why it's one of my favorite movies ever. They do a pretty straightforward take on this, not a lot of jokes that aren't in the film. Often such pop culture plays are parodies of the original, but this is more accurately an homage by people who love the film (it was written and directed by Dark Room owner/operator Jim Fourniadis, who not only claims this as his favorite movie, but met his wife at their first production of DR STRANGELOVE: LIVE! some number of years ago).

The stage is pretty bare and simple, but the energy is excellent, and the cast is spot on. Particularly high marks for Sean Kelly as the titular Dr. Strangelove, Damien Chacona as General Buck Tergidson, and Tim Kay as Group Captain Lionel Mandrake. Even more than the rest of the cast, they became Peter Sellers, George C. Scott, and...um...Peter Sellers.

The only thing I missed from the original was the closing song of "We'll Meet Again." Jim told me they had tried it in earlier productions but it was too somber and he prefers ending on an upbeat note. So instead they played "Dr. Love"
